Abstract

This article presents results from a study of the learning effects of a trauma treatment course presented as a 6-day study module at a Norwegian university. The goal of the course was to provide participants with the latest developments in research on trauma and its treatment. The course was specifically designed for those occupations much involved in working with clients leading lives marked by major challenges. First presented in 2009, the course was offered for successive years until 2015. In order to measure the effect of the course on participants’ understanding of trauma as well as on their own practice with clients, a questionnaire was developed and administered. Analysis of the responses to the questionnaire indicated that many participants reported that the course had led to increased understanding of the behavior patterns of their clients. The study showed that participants also reported that the course had helped them gain understandings of reactions of clients that previously had puzzled them.
