Barns kommunikasjon i møte med helsesykepleier

Abstract

The main purpose of the study is 1) - to gain knowledge about why children contact health nurses and how they communicate, and 2) how do health nurses interpret how the child expresses mental health complaints. This study examines how school children in grades 1 – 5, organize-, and use, their bodies to communicate, feelings and experiences. The study also examines what health nurses experience as the most central challenges children experience today, and how the health nurses' interpretations of these can vary. The research question is as follows: "What do the health nurses in the school health service experience with children’s complaints and communication through the body?" To examine the issue, a qualitative study was selected, based on a semi-structured interview with four health nurses. The study uses a phenomenological approach. The results show that all health nurses have similar experiences of why children seek contact in-, that they use their bodies to communicate somatic and mental issues, but their interpretations of what is communicated vary. Their interpretation seems to be linked to their own understanding of the body and life experience, which also emerges in the choice of the further interdisciplinary cooperation around the child. One of the major challenges children report is related to digital video games, which appears to result in social challenges amongst friends and family and are expressed through somatic symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches and pain in other parts of the body.
