Modificadores metabólicos en la acuicultura

Abstract

La acuicultura constituye una vía alternativa de producción de alimentos como moluscos, crustáceos y peces, y a su vez contribuye a la disminución de la captura indiscriminada de los organismos acuáticos de su medio natural. Sin embargo, esta actividad enfrenta problemas en lograr eficiencia en determinadas etapas de crecimiento de las especies, así como evitar grandes pérdidas debido a la aparición de determinados patógenos como bacterias, virus y hongos. EL estudio del sistema inmune de peces resulta de gran interés desde el punto de vista académico, por ser un campo novedoso y desde el punto de vista práctico ya que en la medida que se conozcan los factores y mecanismos que regulan este sistema, se podrá modular la respuesta de los peces frente a patógenos. Es sabido que existe una interrelación entre el sistema endocrino y el sistema inmune. Durante años el grupo de Biotecnología Acuática del Centro de Ingeniería Genética de la Habana, CUBA, ha estudiado una serie de moléculas con actividad estimuladora del crecimiento y a su vez del sistema inmune de peces y crustáceos, estas moléculas actúan como modificadores metabólicos que utilizados en una dosis adecuada permiten la liberación de la hormona de crecimiento y la estimulación del sistema inmune innato y adaptativo en peces.
