Considerations surrounding “the Word” among the Uitoto reveal its place within their symbolic universe. The Word is the foundation upon which the Uitotos’ speech, doings, knowledge, duties, desire, thought and power are based; all in all, the Word reflects the mission, perspective and organization of the world they inhabit. The following document is an attempt to present the results of an exploratory research project designed to recognize cultural aspects within Uitoto communities related to what they call “the true Word”. This project was concerned mainly with the connections existent between this “true Word” and other symbolic manifestations of Uitoto culture such as the maloca, the mambeadero, the basket of knowledge, coca, tobacco, etc
