Abstract

La riqueza actual de los países árabes se relaciona con el nivel de posesión de petróleo de cada país o las reservas que ostente. Esto les permite mantener un control casi mundial sobre el principal recurso energético, lo que les posibilita manipular el valor, en perjuicio de muchos renglones de la economía. A nivel mundial existe un debate sobre el presente y futuro de las fuentes de energía tradicionales como la nuclear, el petróleo, el carbón y el gas natural (foro mundial sobre cambio climático y el concejo mundial de energía). Históricamente, en la década de 1970 el petróleo era el rey de los combustibles, el llamado “oro negro”. En esta década se presentó una crisis energética mundial por la “escasez” del crudo, lo que produjo una especulación en sus precios. Posteriormente, la energía nuclear, con el mayor potencial de generación de electricidad, llega a su punto más bajo tras las tragedias en la central nuclear de Chernobyl, hace más de veinte años, y la ocurrida en Fukushima 1 en el 2011, por lo que organismos de todo tipo ejercen mucha presión para cerrar las actuales centrales nucleares en funcionamiento y evitar el desarrollo y la construcción de nuevas
