Movilidad y vialidad en Cali: una carrera perdida

Abstract

La ciudad debe su origen y ventaja a la posibilidad de tener a corta distancia muchas opciones para realizar actividades productivas, educativas, culturales y comerciales. Los desplazamientos urbanos dependen de las actividades que se realizan en ella, de las formas de producir y consumir (estilo de vida), y de las opciones de movilidad que tiene la población para realizar dichos desplazamientos. La forma como una sociedad define sus estilos de vida y estos se desarrollan en el espacio tiene, entonces, implicaciones en el modo como se desplazan las personas en las vías urbanas y se estructura la demanda de transporte. Por ejemplo, una sociedad que entiende la educación y/o el trabajo como una tarea principal que se debe hacer necesariamente por fuera del hogar, va a requerir movilizar a las personas hacia el estudio y el trabajo. En este sentido, una sociedad que plantee que la tarea fundamental del hogar es la educación y que el trabajo también se puede hacer desde la residencia, tendrá menos demandas de movilidad.
