Incendios de cobertura vegetal y biodiversidad: una mirada a los impactos y efectos ecológicos potenciales sobre la diversidad vegetal

Abstract

Los estudios sobre incendios de cobertura vegetal y biodiversidad son de gran importancia en la comprensión de las tensiones y conflictos que establece el desarrollo en las relaciones sociedad-naturaleza, razón por la cual en el presente artículo se revisan algunos de los principales impactos potenciales del fenómeno de biodiversidad vegetal. El fuego ha sido históricamente una fuerza evolutiva de la naturaleza, tanto en las especies biológicas, como en los ecosistemas y en el paisaje. Sin embargo, los cambios de uso del suelo ocurridos durante los tres últimos siglos en los distintos continentes, conjugados con los cambios climáticos de carácter global y regional, han conllevado a la alteración de los patrones naturales de ocurrencia de este fenómeno en la mayor parte de los ecosistemas con coberturas vegetales, transformándolos, disminuyendo su biodiversidad y comprometiendo su capacidad productiva. Los principales impactos y efectos ecológicos sobre las especies vegetales se derivan de la alteración de las condiciones microclimáticas necesarias para su reproducción y desarrollo, de la reducción del tamaño de las poblaciones locales por muerte directa o diferida de sus individuos, de la modificación de sus estructuras poblacionales, de la disminución de sus diversidad genética, de la generación de condiciones para el ingreso de nuevas especies competidoras y de la alteración de las interacciones biológicas y ecológicas con otras especies

Studies of vegetation fires and biodiversity are very important in understanding the tensions and conflicts that the development set out in the society-nature relations; therefore this article reviews some major impacts at the level of vegetal biodiversity. Fire has historically been an evolutionary force of nature both in biological species and ecosystems, as well as in landscapes. Notwithstanding, changes in the use of land throughout the last three centuries in all the continents, combined with the global and local weather changes has brought about a change on the natural pattern of occurrence of this phenomena in most vegetable covered ecosystems. Hence, they have been transformed and have decreased in biodiversity compromising their productive capability. The main impacts and ecological effects on vegetable species are derived from disturbance of the micro-climatic conditions which are necessary for their reproduction and development, downsizing of local populations due to direct or differed death of individuals, population structure modification, genetic diversity decrease, generation of conditions for the presence of new competing species, and the disturbance of biological and ecological interactions amongst species
