Abstract

This document presents the development of a classificator conveyor belt of leaves of medicinal plants with a fault tolerant control, made by the seedbed of the Research Group Grupo de Investigación de Sistemas de Telemando y Control Distribuido (GITCoD) from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente. Currently in Colombia the productivity of companies in the sector is reduced, also affecting the health of workers, so the interest of the project was focused on developing a scale prototype that will work automatically; for this purpose, the process was consulted and meetings were held with university professors and experts to identify the main requirements for the design of the prototype; As a result of these interviews, a list of specifications was established from which four prototypes were made that were evaluated to select the one with the best performance to the proposed specifications, to which the detailed design was made and constructed. The developed prototype is responsible for transporting the leaves of the plants, allowing the integration of a computational vision system that verifies the state of the leaf and performs an encoding of the same for three different processes (dehydration for the manufacture of herbal teas, extraction of essential oils, or dispose of the plant if it detects that it is not suitable for any of the two mentioned processes); later, the vision system indicates the band so that, by means of a classifier installed at the end of the band, makes the classification of the sheets in the different compartments for storage. The tests carried out on the prototype make it possible to verify the proper functioning of the prototype. Finally, a control strategy was implemented to tolerate failures related to the electrical power supply system of the motor that drives the conveyor. The tests performed on the system in the absence and presence of failures validate the proper design of the solution
