Abstract

La exigencia deportiva y la necesidad de buscar la excelencia en el rendimiento, está provocando que evolucionen los métodos de entrenamiento y emerjan nuevas tecnologías aplicadas a estos; siendo la electroestimulación una de ellas. La electroestimulación muscular (EMS) consiste en la aplicación de una corriente eléctrica al músculo o al nervio periférico con el fin de lograr una contracción muscular involuntaria. Esta forma de entrenamiento, viene siendo aplicada desde hace varias décadas; sin embargo, hoy día no existe consenso en su forma de uso consecuencia de la gran heterogeneidad de parámetros utilizados (Benito, 2013). En el presente trabajo se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de la literatura existente en relación con la electroestimulación de cuerpo completo (WB-EMS) como nuevo método de entrenamiento para la mejora del rendimiento deportivo, y en especial su relación con la capacidad de resistencia en sujetos físicamente activos; después de valorarse los beneficios e inconvenientes de la aplicación de la EMS. La propuesta consistió en un plan de entrenamiento, sugerida de un estudio piloto previo, dos veces por semana durante seis semanas, con el objetivo de valorar las posibles respuestas agudas y adaptaciones
