La reinvención del cuerpo femenino y la deconstrucción de los géneros: vampirismo y subversión en «Isabel» de Carmen Boullosa

Abstract

Desde su lugar privilegiado al margen del canon realista de las letras mexicanas, Carmen Boullosa presenta con “Isabel” (2000) un relato de vampiros que, caracterizado por un eclecticismo formal y genérico que va desde el horror hasta lo alegórico social, la novela de folletín o el relato erótico, propone una deconstrucción del propio concepto de género literario. Además, la descripción de la sexualidad voraz de Isabel busca ofrecer una reinterpretación del cuerpo femenino, que ha sido insistentemente cosificado por las propuestas patriarcales del horror literario. “Isabel” también propone una crítica social y política al México contemporáneo, que desde el escepticismo y el diálogo con la tradición gótica como representante de un pasado que se niega a desaparecer, pone en entredicho el proyecto de modernidad en el país. Mi propuesta ofrece un acercamiento a este relato para analizar la manera en la que el gótico contemporáneo de la autora desintegra conceptos categóricos relacionados con la orientación sexual, el género y el propio concepto de historia.
