Abstract

A principios de los ochenta comienza a despertar en las empresas la necesidad por el aprendizaje, la adaptación al cambio, la creatividad y la innovación. En esta línea, algunos autores argumentan que la innovación ya no es un asunto a tratar individualmente, sino que depende cada vez más de la acción colectiva entre agentes. A esto se une la internacionalización de la competencia y la mayor complejidad de la tecnología, por lo que en los últimos años el número de relaciones de cooperación relacionadas con actividades innovadoras ha aumentado significativamente, convirtiendo esta estrategia en la clave de la competitividad de muchas empresas. Este documento recoge la evolución que ha experimentado la empresa multinacional a partir de los procesos de globalización de las economías y los motivos que han contribuido a la creciente importancia de las actividades innovadoras en el seno de estas empresas. Igualmente se analiza la tendencia hacia relaciones de cooperación para el desarrollo de tecnologías cada vez más complejas con el fin de sobrevivir en los mercados internacionales. Se presentan distintas formas de cooperación y se analizan los casos de tres empresas multinacionales prestigiosas que han optado por este tipo de relaciones para mantener su ventaja competitiva frente a sus rivales
