Comparativa del desarrollo económico. Europa del Este versus Europa Occidental

Abstract

[EN This paper analyzes the economic development of two blocs of European countries, the Western bloc and the Eastern bloc, during the period 2000-2024. The Western bloc focuses on Germany, France, and Spain, while the Eastern bloc comprises the Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania. First, the theoretical framework is established through a conceptual review of economic development and its evolution throughout history, supported by relevant academic literature. Subsequently, the trajectories of the selected variables are compared through a graphical analysis of the chosen data, accompanied by a corresponding discussion. Finally, after analyzing the results, the main conclusions are drawn. First, the Western bloc shows signs of structural exhaustion, while the Eastern bloc has achieved rapid convergence based on an accumulation of factors, highlighting the need to transition to a model based on innovation and productivity to avoid the middle-income trap
