Abstract

[EN] This study focuses on productivity. It is divided into two different parts. The first of them explores, on the one hand, the definition of the concept of productivity and its relevance for economies. Nevertheless, this part mainly pays attention to the historical path followed by productivity modelization in Economics. More specifically, Solow’s “traditional approach”, as well as its later extensions by authors like Jorgenson or Griliches, are shown, in addition to how these theoretical views have affected growth accounting. Lastly, two alternative approaches for explaining technological progress are tackled: the vintage capital models and the endogenous growth models. Regarding the second part of this study, it consists of the study of sectoral labour productivity in Spain through linear regression analysis with dichotomous variables as explanatory factors. This section also contains a discussion on some difficulties of the empirical model related to the weights of regions inside industries.
