Abstract

[EN] The importance of lake ecosystems is having a great impact on the scientific literature, becoming necessary ecosystems to protect, being key to environmental quality studies as the climate crisis becomes more latent. Within the communities that make them up, amphibians are excellent bioindicators for such studies given their great sensitivity. One of the characteristics that could be indicative of the quality of the ecosystem is its degree of melanism, this aspect being little treated in the literature. This paper studies the degree of melanism and its possible relationship with the quality of different lagoons located in agricultural areas of the province of León, Spain. The results show significant differences between species and between lagoons, so that melanism has been related in some way to landscape and physicochemical characteristics. However, the small number of lagoons studied make it impossible to generalize the results. Despite the limitations, the results suggest that melanism is the result of an evolutionary adaptation process.
