Cannabinoides como tratamiento alternativo en la epilepsia refractaria

Abstract

Introducción: La epilepsia es un trastorno neurológico crónico y no transmisible que afecta a personas sin distinción. El 70% conseguiría un control total de las convulsiones si se tratara adecuadamente. Sin embargo, tras el fracaso de un primer antiepiléptico, las posibilidades de controlar la enfermedad son cada vez menores y esta es la razón del creciente interés por la terapia a base de cannabis. Metodología: Revisión bibliográfica sistematizada en la que se realizaron búsquedas en Pubmed, Web of Science y Dialnet. Resultados: Se analizaron 15 estudios. Algunos estudios reflejaron la efectividad del tratamiento con reducciones en la frecuencia de convulsiones en más del 53% de los participantes. Los efectos adversos observados tras el tratamiento fueron: somnolencia y disminución del apetito, entre otros. Se registraron efectos positivos como mejora del comportamiento y del estado de alerta. Conclusión: Es un tratamiento beneficioso para la epilepsia, especialmente eficaz en algunos síndromes como el Síndrome de Lennox-Gastaut en el que se evidenció una significativa mejoría.
