Abstract

La figura femenina posee una importancia fundamental en la novela griega antigua, que se pone de manifiesto no sólo en el ámbito de la narración en sí, sino también en lo que se refiere a la propia configuración del género. El papel central la mujer desempeña en esta forma literaria hace necesario un análisis detallado de la función que cumple tanto dentro como fuera de ella, ya que si bien hay que partir de la consideración de la novela como reflejo de las circunstancias sociales y culturales de su época, no debemos olvidar tampoco el efecto de retroalimentación que se produce entre una obra de arte y la sociedad en la que y para la que se genera. A la hora de intentar determinar cuál es la posición que se observa en el género con respecto a la mujer hay que tener en cuenta que aunque la Literatura puede definirse en buena medida como imitación de la vida, no carece ni mucho menos de la capacidad de persuasión necesaria para, en ocasiones, servir de modelo a ésta.
