Abstract

Queremos con este trabajo hacer una nueva aportación a los escasos estudios que existen sobre el monacato femenino en el mundo americano, a pesar de la im­portancia que este fenómeno tuvo allí. Ciertamente que no es más que un avance de lo que puede ocurrir en estudios posteriores, pues pretendemos abrir una bre­cha en las investigaciones, que lógicamente no queremos que quede cerrada con esta aportación. Decimos, que ha habido pocos estudios, no porque no haya bio­grafías y anecdotario de hechos curiosos con los que tengan que ver las monjas, sino porque pocas veces se ha tratado de profundizar más en los asuntos, por lo menos por parte de los eruditos locales y de los propios escritores religiosos cuya labor en muchas ocasiones es encomiable
