Background. Vitamin D (Vit D) has a clear function on health, it is known its relationship with muscle/muscular function as Vitamin D receptors has been discovered in the cells of this tissue. Several authors have researched about the relationship between the supplementation with Vit D3 and muscle strength, but the conclusions are controversial. Method. For this work, healthy and physically active people aged between 18 and 65 years have been selected to analyze the effects of supplementation on muscular strength, using as a reference the 25(OH)D status and strength parameters from different tests. For this purpose, PUBMED and Web Of Science have been used as data bases, searching between 2018 and 2022. Results. Ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this review, whose data are presented in tables. The supplementation with VIT D3 improves the serum levels of 25(OH)D in all papers which have been analyzed, considering that participants started the interventions with different status of 25(OH)D (deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency). Regarding strength exercises, there were no variation after the intervention with oral Vit D3 supplementation. In addition, no significant improvements have been found. Conclusion: Vitamin D3 supplementation do increase the 25(OH)D concentration in people showing a deficiency, insufficiency, and/or sufficiency status, but it appears to have no effect on strength in physically active people between 18 and 69 years.
Antecedentes.
