Abstract

The main aim of this paper is to produce a legal translation from English into Spanish that is valid in a professional context. The chosen text is a lease agreement developed by an American program, Beyond the diag, that provides legal assistance for the students of the University of Michigan. The framework and both Spanish and American legal systems are examined. It also focuses on the analysis of the translation and difficulties. The use of an assisted translation tool such as CafeTran, the consultation of materials and terminological glossaries and the subsequent review and contrast with parallel texts in the target language help to draw final conclusions.
