L'obstetrícia. Pràctiques i creences a l'antic Egipte (Imperi Antic-Imperi Nou)

Abstract

In Ancient Egypt, family unity was of great importance. Having offspring was considered a vital necessity and was considered the main objective when contracting marriage. To carry out a good pregnancy a series of rituals, prayers and amulets had to be followed to count on the help of the divinities and to ward off all evil, as well as death. Religion was very present in the life of the ancient egyptians, because there was a very clear relationship between biological processes and magical-religious beliefs. This research will analyze the symbolism of pregnancy and all its stages, from conception to birth, from the point of view of magical-religious beliefs belonging to Ancient Egypt.
