Kolektywizm i indywidualizm. Zachowania wyborcze w Polsce w latach 2001-2011

Abstract

Common and scientific reflection on social life is based on the assumption that there are two opposite forms of its organization. One of them emphasizes the importance of community, and the other one, of an individual. These differences are usually characterized by two categories: collectivism and individualism. The essence of collectivism stresses human ability to undertake common actions. It values the will and ability to achieve goals thanks to common actions above pursuing individual benefits. All forms of collectivism are included in the opinion that human beings are social animals which identify themselves with other people and are connected by ties of common identity. A social group, no matter how it is understood, is important and even necessary for human existence. Individualism, on the other side, is related to the assumption of a primacy of an individual over all social groups and assemblies because an individual is in the center of all political and social theories. In this dissertation collectivism and individualism are the point of reference to the research on the preferences of Polish voters within the last eleven years. In this context they are treated as the attitudes determining voters’ behavior – the relationships between the voters and political parties which are reflected in the act of preference and voting.
