The aim of this dissertation is to restore the concept of autothematicism in methodological terms and to reinstate it in literary studies. Popular in the twentieth century, due to the dominance of the structuralist semiotic paradigm and the vitality of modernist poetics, autothematicism is currently dismissed or forgotten, as a result of various transformations that took place after 1989. The issue is nonetheless present and extremely important in the most recent literary works – it lies at the root of the most notable critical debates of the end of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century, which concerned hermetic poetry and the political nature of art, strongly related to the problem of textual referentiality. These circumstances are an incentive to discuss the meta-reflexive dimensions of contemporary literature and the emancipatory potential of self-reflexive poetry. They are analysed in relation to the basic issues of autothematicism: the textual form, the medium of language and the lyrical subject, which are then embedded in the theoretical, philosophical and political contexts of the phenomenon – including its possible non-anthropocentricity. The lyrical works of Krystyna Miłobędzka, Andrzej Sosnowski, Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki, Joanna Mueller, Maciej Taranek and Natalia Malek, among others, serve as the basis for illustrating these issues.

Niniejsza rozprawa ma na celu metodologiczne odświeżenie i przywrócenie badaniom literaturoznawczym pojęcia autotematyzmu, popularnego w XX stuleciu w związku z dominacją paradygmatu strukturalno-semiotycznego oraz żywotnością poetyk modernistycznych, współcześnie zaś odsuniętego czy zapomnianego w wyniku różnego typu przemian następujących po roku 1989. Problematyka ta jest natomiast wyraźnie obecna i niezwykle ważna w najnowszej twórczości literackiej – leży u podstaw najważniejszych dla końcówki XX i początku XXI wieku debat krytycznych, które dotyczyły poezji niezrozumiałej i polityczności sztuki, silnie wiążących się z problemem referencjalności tekstu. Okoliczności te motywują do przedyskutowania metarefleksyjnych wymiarów współczesnej literatury oraz emancypacyjnego potencjału samozwrotnej liryki. Analizowane są one w odniesieniu do podstawowych dla autotematyzmu kwestii: formy tekstowej, medium języka oraz podmiotu tworzącego, które obudowane zostają teoretycznymi, filozoficznymi i politycznymi kontekstami zjawiska – między innymi jego możliwą nieantropocentrycznością. Problemy te zostają zobrazowane na przykładzie szeregu tekstów poetyckich, między innymi tych autorstwa Krystyny Miłobędzkiej, Andrzeja Sosnowskiego, Eugeniusza Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego, Joanny Mueller, Macieja Taranka czy Natalii Malek.
