Abstract

The present project was carried out with the justification of reducing logistics costs through an analysis of operations, costs and transportation times between the Caribbean region and cities such as Mosquera and Medellin The methodology used to search for a solution will be through the development of an optimization model, using linear programming to optimize a cost function that will include the costs of transporting the cargo through certain modes of transport between origin and destination, and taking into account the times of transferring the load. In the development of the project the relationships between the different points of origin and destination were constructed with the respective transport modes, costs and related times between the different modalities of transport. In this sense, in the development of the project were made a series of steps with which the problem was characterized and delimited to find a solution. For the transportation of the cargo it is concluded that from Barranquilla and Cartagena it must be transported by water to the port of Barrancabermeja for a period of 12 days in which two trips are carried carrying 12000 tons. Then the cargo will change of transportation mode to road vehicle until it reaches La Dorada, Caldas. Later, it changes its mode of transport again to start using the iron-road ways to Medellin. The transport of the cargo that has as destination Mosquera will be unloaded from the dock of Barrancabermeja so that later it is transported by road way to Mosquera. In the iron transport mode we would have about 4 trips that transport 8,500 tons until La Dorada, soon to be transported by rail to Medellín and by road until Mosquera. The missing 3500 tons will be transported using road modes
