Abstract

AbstractThis paper presents a model to assess seismic damage of earth buildings when a seismic action occurs; this is carried out through seismic vulnerability functions. The model relates the vulnerability index with the damage index according to a specific seism. Seismic vulnerability is based on the index proposed by Benedetti y Petrini [1] adapted to the condition of Colombian buildings. The damage index is estimated using the capacity/demand relationship. A sample of the 53 earth buildings in Bucaramanga was considered in the construction of the seismic vulnerability functions. The vulnerability index and the damage index were calculated on each one of the buildings for different maximum accelerations, and then with these indexes a vulnerability functions were estimated. These functions were used to evaluation seismic damage in the city of Bucaramanga.
