Factores de riesgo asociados al suicidio e intento de suicidio

Abstract

Objetivo: Identificar los factores de riesgos asociados en la población de suicidas (consumados y no consumados) en Barranquilla (Colombia) durante 1999-2000. Participantes y Métodos: Estudio de casos y controles incidentes. 60 casos y 56 controles no apareados. Los casos: suicidios, proceden del registro departamental de necropsia del Instituto de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses y los intentos de suicidio proceden de dos hospitales de referencia del área metropolitana de la ciudad: Universitario de Barranquilla y Metropolitano. Los controles corresponden a población general y a personas que acudieron a estos hospitales al servicio de consulta externa, exceptuando consultantes a los servicios de psiquiatría y psicología. Se administró una encuesta estructurada de administración directa para identificar características sociodemográficas, trastornos del comportamiento y patología psiquiátrica. A fin de establecer la veracidad de la información de los familiares de los suicidas, se les aplicó otro instrumento denominado autopsia o necropsia psicológica, que permitió determinar y confirmar trastornos de la conducta y patología psiquiátrica. Mediciones y Resultados: Los trastornos del comportamiento asociado a los casos fue la ansiedad (OR= 7,33; p=0,00) y el temperamento explosivo (OR=3,48; p=0,00). La depresión como trastorno de tipo psiquiátrico afectó de manera importante los casos (89,8%), siendo éste un factor de riesgo significativo (OR=18,16 p=0,00). El evento de haber estado hospitalizado y padecer una enfermedad crónica se encuentra relacionado con la conducta suicida (OR= 2,81; p=0,00 y OR=8,31; p=0,00, respectivamente). Conclusiones: La ansiedad, la depresión, la presencia de enfermedades crónicas y la hospitalización son factores de riesgo del suicidio en Barranquilla
