Modern roundabouts are a popular method to control traffic at intersections. In this type of roundabouts, priority is given to the circulating flow, and the approaching vehicles have to find a gap to merge with the flow under a yield condition. These types of maneuvers are impacted by many factors including the human behavior, the vehicle type, and the number of approaching lanes. In this work, one of the major factors that affect the capacity of roundabouts is investigated; that is the critical gap value. This work aims to evaluate the value of the critical gap at some of the most popular types of roundabouts in Qatar. The critical gap value was identified at a number of roundabouts with different configurations in Doha. The outcome of this work can benefit the engineering society and public agencies in Qatar and the region to plan and design similar facilities. NPRP award [NPRP 4-1170-2-456] from the Qatar Research Fund (a member of Qatar Foundation). الدوارات الحديثة هي أحد الوسائل الشائعة للتحكم المروري في التقاطعات. في هذا النوع من الدوارات، تُعطى الأولوية للسير للمركبات داخل الدوار حيث أن المركبات المقتربة تسعى للاندماج مع المركبات داخل الدوار بالبحث عن فجوة بينها. هذه المناورات تتأثر بعوامل عديدة منها السلوك البشري، نوع المركبة وعدد حارات داخل الدوار. في هذا العمل، يتم التحقيق في أحد العوامل الرئيسية التي تؤثر على سعة الدوارات؛ ألا و هي قيمة الفجوة الحرجة. يهدف هذا العمل إلى تقييم قيمة الفجوة الحرجة في بعض أنواع الدوارات الأكثر شعبية في قطر. تم تحديد قِيَم الفجوة الحرجة لعدة دوارات بسمات متعددة في مدينة الدوحة وضواحيها. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تمت مقارنة النتائج التي حُصِل عليها بنتائج من عدة دراسات سابقة نُفِّذَت في دول أخرى. مخرجات هذا العمل يمكن أن تعود بالنفع على المجتمع الهندسي والهيئات العمومية في قطر والمنطقة المحيطة (كدول الخليج العربي) في تخطيط و تصميم منشآت مماثلة.
