Abstract

Abstract We intend to analyse the contributions and the historic connection within the working fields between the Spanish Atlantic Isles and the Caribbean, having the Canaries as a paradigm although some conclusions are applicable to the rest of the Macaronesian archipelagos. The field of study is the Atlantic area, understood as a community of people as well as ideas, considering as a hypothesis the historic constitution of an “Atlantic work market”. We start from the contribution made by the former within several economic sectores (agriculture, tobbaco production or services), being related in some countries (mainly Venezuela and Cuba, but others as well) as innovating and important agents for the emigrants who have come back to the isles following the effects of the migratory process, a very important and common aspect in the history of migrations.
