Estudio epidemiológico de las fracturas de tobillo en la práctica deportiva

Abstract

En el presente capítulo se exponen los resultados obtenidos de una muestra de 90 pacientes con diagnóstico de fractura maleolar de tobillo, entre los años 1995 y 2005, recogidos en el ámbito de la práctica deportiva en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. 87% eran hombres. La edad media fue de 28.3 años (14-48) El fútbol fue la actividad más frecuente desencadenante (72%). Sólo un 2% de las fracturas fue abierta. Las fracturas unimaleolares fueron las más frecuentes (66,7%), seguidas de las bimaleolares (26,7%). Un 50% y un 46,4% fueron trans- y suprasindesmales respectivamente. 43 pacientes presentaron lesiones asociadas. En un 84% de los casos el tratamiento fue quirúrgico, en un 91,7% reducción abierta y fijación interna. En un 29% se realizó adicionalmente la reparación del ligamento deltoideo. En un 78,6% se intervino a los pacientes en las primeras 8 horas. Se produjeron complicaciones en un solo paciente (infección superficial) que se resolvió favorablemente.
