Abstract

Spanish has been a language barely demanded in China for years, despite being the official and vehicular language in more than 20 countries of the world and in spite of the relevance of this language in the global context. However, as of 2018, Spanish is incorporated as an optional subject in the denominated Gaokao, the exam of access to Higher Education in China. As a result, the teaching of Spanish in the country has begun to gain strength and the demand for native teachers and specific teaching materials for native Chinese speakers has proliferated. In order to cope with such demand, it is necessary to consider that, because of the educational and cultural background of Chinese students, these have peculiar ways of learning which differ from the methods and strategies generally used in the West. This cultural contrast in class can complicate and slow down the learning process of Chinese native speakers to acquire the target language, Spanish. This thesis has been created with the aim of providing an overview of the learning styles of Chinese-speaking students who live in Spain. In this sense, we believe that this approach can be helpful for those native Spanish teachers who work with students whose first language is Chinese.
