The chronicle gender in Hispanic America (XX C.) has experienced a revival from the final years of the seventies to the present. However, the antecedents of that gender must be sought in the last few years of the XIX century. For that reason, in this work we propose an overview of that discursive form, whose rise coincides with the birth of modernist aesthetics in prose together with the increase in quantity and prestige of the press. That way we intend to demonstrate journalism and literature, between prose and poetry is indeed a genre that has projected itself with total relevance from the XIX century into the XX.
