Abstract

La contaminación derivada de la piscicultura puede ocasionar de forma puntual el aumento de la concentración de nutrientes disueltos en el medio, con el consiguiente peligro de eutrofización de las aguas próximas. En este trabajo se evalúa la capacidad de biofiltración del alga verde, Ulva rigida C. Agardh, con respecto a los nutrientes disueltos en los efluentes de cultivo de dorada (Sparus aurata L., 1758), concretamente fosfatos, compuestos de nitrógeno inorgánico (nitratos + nitritos y amonio) y orgánico (aminoácidos) disueltos. Estos nutrientes proceden tanto de la excreción como de la descomposición del pienso no consumido por los peces. En el estudio se hace un análisis comparativo con la capacidad de biofiltración de microorganismos en tanques de cultivo. El uso de U. rigida en sistemas de biofiltro para efluentes de acuicultura resulta mucho más efectivo que los microorganismos. El porcentaje medio de absorción de U. rigida para fosfatos es del 53%, para nitratos + nitritos 76%, para amonio 44% y para aminoácidos 70%. Sin embargo, los microorganismos presentan un porcentaje de absorción de corta duración (1 h) en el laboratorio, se comprobó que los talos de U. rigida retenían los aminoácidos serina y arginina, incluso en presencia de amonio..
