Abstract

In the present study we attempt a linguistic and discursive analysis of a corpus of letters written by female political prisoners while incarcerated under the Franco dictatorship in Spain. The methodology employed is based on Critical Discourse Analysis, an interdisciplinary approach that blends historical, social, political and linguistic concerns to produce a critical review of a specific text. From this analysis, we demonstrate how the context influences the writing process, the textual genre, the transmission of information and the interpretation of the discourse.
