Abstract

Se ha estudiado la actividad del sistema de transporte de electrones (ETS) en el mexozooplancton durante el período comprendido entre diciembre de 1984 y mayo de 1985. El muestreo fue realizado sobre la plataforma sur de la isla de Gran Canaria, en un área cercana a la zona de cizallamiento del campo de vientos. La actividad del ETS muestra una variación similar a la encontrada para la biomasa en el mismo período, con un máximo a finales de invierno, de malor medio 74,06 pI 02.m -3 h1-'. Sin embargo, la actividad especifica muestra dos máximos relativos; el primero de ellos, en febrero, mes anterior al máximo de actividad por unidad de volumen, y el segundo en abril con valores medios de 18,07 y 17,96 pI 02.mg proteínas -'h-', respectivamente. Se observaron gradientes de actividad producidos a partir del área de cizallamiento del campo de viento y en la zona central del muestreo. Dichas variaciones guardan concordancia con las de biomasa.

Variation in the mesozooplankton electron trans­port system activity (ETS) on the island shelf of Gran Canaria were studied from December 1984 to May 1985. The sampling area was located near the island wind shear field. During this period, ETS activity showed variations similar to thuse of the biomass. A late winter maximum was produced, with a mean value of 74.06 µ.l O2 · m-3 h- 1. However, two relative maxima were observed in specific activity. The first was recorded in February, the month preceding ETS activity (per unit vol­ume), and the second was observed in April, with mean values of 18.07 and 17.96 µI O2 ·mg protein -1 ·h- 1, respectively. The activity gradients produced in the sampling area were also studied. These gradients appeared in the area of wind shear and in the central part of the zone studied. The activity gradients were in accord with thuse of biomass.
