Abstract

Introducción: Las enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV) son una importante causa de morbimortalidad en las Islas Canarias. El Síndrome Metabólico (SM) es una agregación de factores de riesgo de ECV. El diagnóstico precoz y el manejo integral de los sujetos con SM podrían disminuir la incidencia de ECV. El enfoque preventivo y terapéutico de primera elección es la modificación del estilo de vida para reducir el peso e incrementar la actividad física, junto con la modificación de los hábitos dietéticos. El objetivo de esta tesis es establecer la relación entre los hábitos alimentarios y la prevalencia de Síndrome Metabólico en una muestra representativa de la población canaria.
