Determinación de la talla de primera madurez sexual y período reproductivo de la caballa Scomber japonicus (Houttuyn, 1782) de las islas Canarias

Abstract

Se estudiaron un total de 1142 caballas o estorninos Scomber japonicus capturados en la zona sur de Gran Canaria (islas Canarias) durante el periodo comprendido entre marzo de 1988 y junio de 1989. El rango de tallas estuvo comprendido entre los 14 y 42 cm de longitud total. La proporcion de machos y hembras no presento diferencias significativas de la relacion teorica 1:1. El 50 p. 100 de madurez se alcanza a los 20 cm de talla en ambos secos. El periodo se situa en los meses de invierno, con un pico en diciembre-enero.
