Dinámica poblacional del cangrejo rey Chaceon affinis (Geryonidae) en Canarias

Abstract

Este estudio aporta información sobre la distribución espacio-temporal, crecimiento y reproducción del cangrejo rey Chaceon affinis en Gran Canaria. Muestras trimestrales fueron recolectadas con nasas a 411-1278 m de profundidad entre 2003 y 2007. Se examinaron 1772 cangrejos (1043 machos y 729 hembras). A lo largo del ciclo anual la población se localizó en 700-900 m. con migración reproductora de hembras hacia aguas más someras (700 m) en invierno-primavera. Existen diferencias significativas entre sexos en las relaciones alométricas anchura de caparazón (AC)-peso total, AC-longitud de caparazón (LC), AC-anchura y longitud de la quela derecha (AQD, LQD) y en la talla asintótica. Los machos dominaron a partir de 130 mm AC. La talla de primera madurez se estimó a partir de la relación AC-AQD y del estado de la vulva: 119,4 mm AC (machos), 111,3 mm AC (hembras, morfometría) y 126,6 mm AC (hembras, vulva).
