Fragmentación urbana en la ciudad española. Las viejas periferias urbanas del desarrollismo

Abstract

The Spanish city of developmentalism has in the residential peripheries one of its most identifying urban spaces. Built between the decades of 19601980, these are dense and monofunctional areas largely promoted by public initiative. Projected for the excluded population coming from interior immigration, half a century later, they have serious deficiencies and are inhabited by vulnerable social classes. In this context, the ob jective of this communication is to study processes of urban fragmentation from the sociodemographic transformations in three neighborhoods of Barcelona, Palma and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, representative of the aforementioned peripheral growth. The stu dy will be carried out based on the analysis of biodemographic and socioeconomic indicators, in order to characterize these neighborhoods based on their level of vulnerability and the changes that have occurred in them. The analysis will show two character istic typologies: that of those neighborhoods in which substitution migratory processes have taken place, and that of other neighborhoods that continue to house vulnerable groups of local origin, due to the difficulties of its inhabitants for social ascent . Despite the time that has passed, as a whole they continue to be spaces destined pandemic scenario. for the social reproduction of the most precarious social classes in cities that are even more fragmented in the current post-pandemic scenario
