Abstract

En El reino de este mundo, de Alejo Carpentier, los personajes actúan siempre simbólicamente, interpretando los signos de su propia identidad, es decir, mostrando a través de ellos el enfrentamiento o el sincretismo entre las dos culturas, dispares, de las cuales forman parte. Si es cierto que Bouckman y Leclerc se oponen, también lo es que Paulina Bonaparte y el mismo Henri Christophe son ejemplos de una inevitable mezcla que los hace coincidir, por unos instantes: ambos muestran, a su modo, la intersección de dos esquemas culturales superpuestos: lo americano y lo europeo.
