Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a condition that hampers many aspects of autistic people’s daily lives. The growing demand for adaptation arises from the imperative need of these people’s inclusion into all society contexts. Therefore, this study aims to make substantial contributions that reveal the cognitive difficulties these students have to deal with during the translation process. In order to obtain truthful and reliable data, a observational study based on the current literature, with the support of self-reports and surveys has been carried out so as to assess in situ the conditions in which the student with ASD goes through the translation process. The results show that the subject with ASD presents more cognitive difficulties during the translation process than the neurotypical subject, which highlights the need to study this problem in greater depth, seek solutions and improve the quality of the educational proposal in Faculties of Translation and Interpreting, as well as promoting the visibility of this disorder in the university community of translators. To conclude, this research aims to give people with ASD the opportunity to study translation despite the adversities presented by this disorder.
