Abstract

Los nematodos respiratorios de los gatos domésticos han sido subestimados durante mucho tiempo porque se les atribuía baja capacidad patógena y porque algunos de ellos han sido prácticamente desconocidos en esta especie hasta hace una década. No obstante, la distribución de los vermes pulmonares felinos ha aumentado por toda Europa y, aunque los gatos que tienen un estilo de vida con acceso al exterior tienen mayor probabilidad de infección, el contagio es también posible en animales de interior. Dado el aumento de la importancia clínica de las vermiosis, este suplemento, elaborado por Elena Carretón, Noelia Costa, Sara García, Jorge Matos, Yaiza Falcón, Alberto Montoya y Rodrigo Morchón, repasa los aspectos más relevantes de algunas de ellas: aelurostrongilosis, troglostrongilosis, capilariosis pulmonar y dirofilariosis.
