La idea de Ecobarrios como entidad propia nace para generar actuaciones que mantengan o eleven el nivel de integración entre la población y su entorno inmediato. Buscar la conjunción equilibrada de las costumbres y hábitos de los lugareños con el medio ambiente, aprovechando y optimizando los recursos y peculiaridades de cada barrio. Entre sus objetivos cabe destacar el fomento de la creación del empleo social, poner en marcha un plan de acción con múltiples actuaciones de conservación paisajística y de diversidad biológica, así como la implementación de modelos de desarrollo sostenible. Dentro del proyecto Ecobarrios se plantea un Subproyecto específico bajo el área denominada "Proyecto paisajístico". En este apartado tiene cabida todas las actuaciones pensadas para la reconfiguración del espacio urbano de los asentamientos rurales seleccionados ubicados dentro de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Gran Canaria.

Among its objectives include the promotion of the establishment of the social employment, implement a plan of action with multiple actions to preserve the landscape and biodiversity, as well as the implementation of sustainable development models. Within the project Ecobarrios arises a subproject under the specific area called "landscaping project". In this section has room for all the performances designed for the reconfiguration of the urban space in selected rural settlements and which are located within the Biosphere Reserve of Gran Canaria.
