New geolocation systems applied to proximity marketing in hotel establishments

Abstract

Las tecnologías de geolocalización se están desarrollando en los últimos tiempos, y están afectando al marketing en el marco de los establecimientos hoteleros. En este trabajo se expone como ayudan al conocimiento del turista y como el empresario puede sacar provecho de ese binomio. Se incide especialmente en dos tecnologías: IBeacon y VLP, la primera de ellas más desarrollada y la segunda en sus inicios. Además refiere la evolución del marketing de proximidad, desde una primera etapa basado simplemente en la localización para terminar adoptando el contexto como núcleo principal del concepto. Asimismo se discuten distintos casos de aplicaciones ya en uso, o en etapas muy avanzadas de desarrollo. Finalmente plantea el estudio de la aplicación directa de la geolocalización en un establecimiento alojativo, desde el ROI hasta el tipo de mensaje más efectivo, pasando por las motivaciones y frenos de los individuos a la hora de adoptar esta tecnología.

Nowadays, geolocation technologies are being developed and are affecting marketing within the framework of hotel establishments. This paper exposes how acquiring knowledge about tourist and how the entrepreneur can take advantage of that binomial. Two technologies are mainly studied: IBeacon and VLP, first is actually in use while the second one is in its early research. In addition it refers to the evolution of proximity marketing, from a first phase based on the location to adopting the context as main nucleus of the concept. Different cases of applications already in use, or in very advanced stages of development, are also discussed. As a conclusion raises the study of the direct application of the geolocation in an accommodation establishment, from the ROI to the most effective type of message, passing through the individual motivations and obstacles when users adopt this technology.
