Abstract

This paper analyses the spread of Erasmianism beyond Erasmus. From the extensive bibliography on the subject, it is concluded that some of the singularities of Erasmus' thought were transferred to the forma mentis of the sixteenth century, in such a way that they could contribute to shape the religious and political thought of the time. From that moment on, this set of ideas was able to survive even without the endorsement of Erasmus himself, becoming a common substratum of the time. All this is exemplified by the case of Cervantes in the 17th century.
