Abstract

El presente capítulo pretende ofrecer una visión del escenario actual de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) aprobados por la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York en septiembre de 2015, así como de la Agenda 2030 que deberá impulsarlos y desarrollarlos. Para comprender la situación en la que nos encontramos, el capítulo se inicia con una breve revisión del origen de los ODS, destacando aquellos acontecimientos que han significado avancesen la transición hacia sociedades sostenibles mediante el establecimiento de programas o estrategias, la aprobación de amplios acuerdos, etc. Asimismo se aborda la importancia e incomprensiones del concepto de Sostenibilidad. Un tercer apartado se centra en los ODS, analizando brevemente los 17 objetivos y sus 169 metas y estableciendo sus estrechas vinculaciones. La última sección se dedica a la Educación para la Sostenibilidad como elemento clave para avanzar en la transición hacia sociedades sostenibles y, en particular, en el papel de las universidades, responsables de la educación de los futuros profesionales y encargadas de la formación del profesorado de los diferentes niveles educativos.
