Abstract

Several proposals are made to use of diversity indices using taxonomic, conservationist (red lists) and phyto-coiological data. The classical items used for biological studies –species and indi-viduals- must be substituted by ‘ad hoc’ items such as the amount of genus in a plant family, number of species in a genus, number of species into a IUCN red list category, etc. The data of Braun-Blanquet’s method for vegetation relevees (Sigam-tist or Zürich-Montpellier phytosociological school) are converted into cover units, using the Tüxen-Ellenberg’s mean cover correspondence expressed as ‰ (degree +=1, 1=50, 2=175, 3=375, 4=625, 5=875). Several examples for each applied diver-sity index are provided, most of them coming form data reporting the Valencian Community (Spain).
