Recatalogación de Vella lucentina M.B. Crespo (Cruciferae) según las categorías UICN (2001)

Abstract

Vella lucentina is endemic to the Thermomediterranean semiarid territories of the central areas of Alicante province (SE of Spain), where it grows in calcicolous steppic bushes. Its fragmented occupation area extends about three square kilometres in which V. lucentina endures a strong human pressure, which led to consider it as “vulnerable” (VU) according to the IUCN categories. Recently, however, both a dramatic decrease in the habitat quality and the destruction of several secondary subpopulations occurred, mainly due to building activities which are also threatening the remaining sub-populations. Studies we are carrying out on the conservation biology of this endemic have reported new and alarming data which suggest labelling it as “endangered” (EN).
