Translating Britishness in the French versions of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Abstract

La forma en que los personajes ficticios se crean y se presentan en los textos, sean escritos o audiovisuales, se denomina caracterización. En el presente artículo, me propongo identificar y definir más aún la caracterización en el marco de la Traducción Audiovisual. El material escogido para la investigación es la serie de televisión estadounidense Buffy the Vampire Slayer. En francés existen dos versiones traducidas, una doblada y la otra subtitulada. Este estudio se centra en un pasaje del episodio “Tabula Rasa” (Temporada 6, episodio 8). En él los personajes pierden la memoria tras ser hechizados. Durante el episodio cada personaje recupera su identidad. Analizo la forma en que los protagonistas se encuentra primero en el original y después en las versiones traducidas. Mi propósito es identificar los cambios de presentación de personajes y posibles pautas en las estrategias de traducción aplicadas.
