Abstract

Esta guía se ha elaborado con el fin de informar a los usuarios, ya sean agricultores, técnicos o simplemente aficionados, sobre cómo realizar una evaluación básica del estado de calidad de los suelos agrícolas e indicar herramientas sencillas que posibiliten generar este conocimiento. Asimismo, al final de la guía, se incluye una ficha con valores de referencia para cada indicador, lo que permite su correcta interpretación. En definitiva, esta guía es una herramienta para ayudar en la determinación objetiva del estado de salud del suelo en base a algunas de sus propiedades clave. El suelo es el activo natural más importante en agricultura, por lo que, sin su buen funcionamiento, la productividad del cultivo no será la óptima. Monitorizar el estado del suelo puede ayudar a tomar decisiones para mejorar la fertilidad del suelo y realizar un manejo sostenible, así como a identificar alguna restricción importante en el suelo. Una monitorización de la salud del suelo permite controlar si las prácticas de manejo están conservando el suelo, mejorándolo o degradándolo. Los protocolos de medida de las propiedades del suelo están anexos a esta guía y han sido realizados por Emily Silva Araujo y José Manuel Mirás Avalos.
