There are many problems with the free legal assistance in our country that have caused that the situation of the current «abogados de oficio» differs greatly from that of the ancients «abogados de pobres», to the extent that who could be described now as poor is not the defendant who requests the benefit of free legal assistance, but the lawyer who is deprived of both the means to carry out an effective defence and a minimum decent remuneration for the work he performs. It is therefore necessary to analyse which aspects of the free legal assistance can be improved in order to change this. And we are going to do this using the «Proyecto de Ley de Asistencia Jurídica Gratuita de 2014» and various proposals that the CGAE has been making in recent years.
