La libertad de imprenta y la abolición de la inquisición

Abstract

La proclamación de la libertad de imprenta y la abolición de la Inquisición, fueron dos de los debates de mayor calado que albergaron las Cortes de Cádiz. Ambas medidas sentaron importantes precedentes políticos: por un lado, la primera legislación sobre libertad de expresión en España, y, por otro, una supresión del Santo Oficio que, si bien había estado precedida por su muerte efectiva a manos de Napoleón en Chamartín, dio pie a un debate público sin precedentes sobre el papel jugado por la Inquisición en la sociedad española.
